This one day field trip will depart from UCM Facultad de Ciencias Geológicas and visit the Yela Underground Gas Storage facility in Brihuega. Then travel to Sacedón and the Buendía Dam.
The Yela Underground Gas Storage (UGS) is located in the municipality of Brihuega, Guadalajara province, 100 km from Madrid. Enagas Transporte, the Spanish main TSO (Transmission System Operator), operates the facilities. The Yela storage site is located in the north-eastern part of the Madrid Basin, within the Tajo basin in central Spain. The Cenozoic Madrid Basin is bordered by the intraplate mountain range Central System to the north and the fold and thrust belt Iberian Chain to the northeast which developed during the Cenozoic. The basin was filled and deformed during Cenozoic times due to the folding of the Iberian Peninsula lithosphere related to the convergence between Iberia and Eurasian plates.

Important notes regarding field trips:
- Before purchasing non-refundable airline tickets, confirm that the trip will take place as trips may be canceled if undersubscribed.
- Please register well before 8 October 2023. Field trip cancellation due to low enrollment will be considered at this time. No refunds will be allowed on field trips after this date.
- Field trips are limited in size and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and must be accompanied by full payment.
- If you do not plan on attending the conference, a U.S. $30 enrollment fee will be added to the field trip fee. This fee may be applied toward registration if you decide to attend the conference at a later date.
- A wait list is automatically created if a field trip sells out. AAPG will notify you if space becomes available.
- We will continue to take registrations for field trips not canceled until they are either sold out or closed.
